The Quarries of Queries

On visiting near the shore, they received the orders for excavation. No, hold your breath! It was not the archaeological deep excavations. It was simply to use the spade and make a linear trench to check the cross section. Standing near the foreshore, some of them were giggling and looking around. All of them were captivated by the shadows of the warriors of the elite class. It felt as if the land beneath had loads to reveal. They were not sure about what it was. They made the trench as per the orders and noted their observations & inferences. This team had one weirdly complicated fellow who followed the shadows and moved to the west. She regained her consciousness and realized that she had entered in an off-grid place which was different from her present. It was the bronze age!

The dramatic transformation of the landscape shocked her inside out. She saw the shadows of people wearing an attire and accessories which looked different from the 21st century. She saw some bracelet like objects but couldn’t understand much as those were shadows only.

She felt a strange similarity with Must farm. In the modern age, it is regarded as one of the pioneers, the Must farm quarry site consists of some of the best preserved artefacts and prehistoric remains of bronze age, in particular. It is therefore, regarded as Britain’s pompeii. As per reports, at the beginning of the bronze age, the River Nene flowed along the southern edge of the current Flag Fen Basin.

She started to search for her areas of interest but she found only few similarities in terms of the environmental set up. There was a river flowing just like River Nene. There was all the sand, silt & clay touching the lower and higher grounds by demarcating the relief. She heard the sounds of wheels moving here & there. The sound was like that of a vehicle when a wrong gear is applied. The shadow of the wheel made her realise that it was a different place. The wheel looked like the wheel of a chariot. The spokes of the wheel added a different feeling. It was heavy. She heard the women fighting and chanting slogans, “Aryans are coming. This is the land of Sinauli. The Dravidians are the rulers. We won’t leave our land. See the water is still flowing and supporting us.”

On getting to hear all these, she realised that she had reached India’s time zone. The copper rich objects had a typical odour. It was diffused in the air. She came across a line of small huts but near the lower grounds. Sounds of bullocks & horses with their riders were clearly heard. The Dravidians had no option but to vacate their land but some of them decided to stay back. Was that a divine intervention? There occurred a flood which inundated the lands. The higher grounds in the south was calling. She heard the Dravids crying and leaving their lands. Some Aryans were also good and married the slaves who were left out in the lower ground. They were given special accolades for their bravery, all made in ‘the bronze age’.

She started trembling in excitement but she wanted someone who could leave her back to her friends who were making the linear trenches. She started searching for the door which could lead her back to her land of queries; the Must farm of England.

She walked a million miles but could not find the door. She heard a soft voice calling by her name. “Sarita! The shot is over. You are not a nomad. Our cast is ready for the next shot. Its a pack up for the day.”
